Biography

Nonette is a lawyer-practitioner, and a specialist in Indigenous Peoples, land rights as human rights, environment and natural resources management. Most of her work has been in Southeast Asia and the Pacific, especially in Indonesia, Philippines, Mekong region and Melanesia. This spans for over 30 years and includes nearly a decade advising the Global Greengrants Fund, several USAID and DFID-UK Natural Resource and Community Forestry Portfolios and Norwegian Climate and Forest funds, dedicated to indigenous peoples and local communities in forest and climate programmes. She cofounded and led the Samdhana Institute, set up several CSOs with focus on defending and strengthening Indigenous Peoples and women’s legal rights. She has consistently designed and implemented organizations to fund IP&LC in the global south. Work now expands to Latin America and Africa, as the Executive Director of Tenure Facility.
