Biography

Jessie supports the External Relations team with grant writing, reporting, and messaging the WITNESS vision to foundations and external audiences.

Jessie is a writer and artist, interested in the ways in which storytelling can be used to spur social change. She has been working at the intersection of art, writing, and social justice for six years, with a particular focus on how narrative practices can be utilized to reform contemporary mental health care. She is a member of the Institute for the Development of Human Arts, a community initiative of providers, advocates, and survivors who support growth and change in the mental health system. Her writing has been published in the Intima Journal of Narrative Medicine and the Village Voice.

Before joining WITNESS, Jessie assisted with education and social policy research at Teachers College, Columbia University. She received her BA from New York University’s Gallatin School in 2015, with an individualized major in Narrative Psychology, and a double minor in Mental Health Studies and Creative Writing.
