David O'Leary

Director of Impact InvestingWorld Vision Canada

Biography

I currently wear two hats. In my role at World Vision Canada (WVC) I lead the organization's social finance efforts. We ideate and scale new models that will direct private investment capital to improve the lives of the world's most vulnerable children. Currently, our focus is on delivering measurable impact toward SDGs 2, 3, 5, and 8.

I also founded and run Kind Wealth; a social-purpose business that helps all Canadians, not just the wealthy few, take control of their money so they can live life on their own terms. Kind Wealth also helps our clients understand the impact they have on the world at large be it through their daily activities, consumption, philanthropy, or investments.

Previously I co-founded Eden Valley Partners (EVP), a fee-based financial advisory practice. Prior to that, I spent 13 years working in a variety of Director-level roles with Morningstar where I led teams in Toronto and Cape Town evaluating many of the world's largest asset managers.

My thoughts and opinions have been published in The Globe & Mail, National Post, Advisor.ca, and The Huffington Post. I have also appeared on CBC, BNN, and CNBC Africa. I also have spoken at many investment conferences in both North America and Africa.

On a personal note, I have a wide set of eclectic and often incongruous interests. In what feels like a lifetime ago, I was a competitive boxer in both Canada and South Africa. As such, I spent a great many hours punching other people in the face. Yet I've spent even more time volunteering both at home and in developing countries throughout Africa. I'm passionate about coffee, great food, the Oxford comma, and inspiring others to give back.
