Biography

Long experience with grant-making, research, communications, and advocacy related to Indigenous Peoples, grassroots rural organizations, forests, and land use, mostly in the tropics. Previously manager of the Forest and Farm Facility at FAO, director of natural resources and climate change at the Ford Foundation, director general of the Center for International Forest Research (CIFOR). Co-founder of the Climate and Land Use Alliance (CLUA). Extensive research on causes of tropical deforestation and policy options for addressing it.
