“Care and domestic work is the responsibility of households and individuals, in particular women. It is not an economic or human rights issue of interest or relevance to the likes of government policy makers, private companies, or foundations”. This has long been the received wisdom. But is this really the case? Do care and domestic work have an effect on our progress towards our Sustainable Development Goals around gender equality and women’s empowerment (Goal 5) and inclusive, sustainable economic growth (Goal 8)?
Join this workshop to:
• Hear how positively addressing women’s heavy and unequal unpaid care and domestic work can help not only empower women socially, politically, and economically, but help tackle poverty, boost economic growth, and provide commercial opportunities for global brands and entrepreneurs.
• Learn about Oxfam’s work bringing together unlikely partners – from global brands to Imams, and from government ministries to grassroots women’s rights organisations – to bring about changes in social norms, investments in infrastructure and labour-saving equipment, and changes in national and international policy.
• Exchange ideas and learning with policy experts, civil society and businesses about what your foundation, organisation or business can do to create positive opportunities for change on this agenda.
