Biography

Having processed nearly 30 million messages in the U.S. and created new standards for data and service provision, Crisis Text Line is a clear leader in utilizing tech to promote mental health and well-being. Due to overwhelming demand and a genuine passion to help people in crisis everywhere, Crisis Text Line is expanding internationally. Elana is spearheading the effort to bring free, 24/7 crisis support to the fingertips of citizens around the world.

Prior to working with Crisis Text Line, Elana held leadership positions across the technology and nonprofit sectors, acting as Director of Operations at Flatiron School, a coding school that empowers individuals to become web and iOS developers, and overseeing health programs for the Millennium Villages Project, a demonstration project of the Earth Institute at Columbia University, the United Nations Development Programme, and Millennium Promise.

Elana grew up in a suburb of New York City and holds a B.A. in Psychology from Princeton University, where she published two papers based on original psychological research in Perspectives on Psychological Science (2008, 3rd ed.) and Emotion (2008, 8th ed.).
