Chiara Garonzik

Biography

Chiara Garonzik currently serves as Chief of Staff at the New Teacher Center (NTC) to support a vision of ensuring that every student has an effective teacher. Chiara worked with NTC’s CEO and leadership team to conceptualize, draft and implement NTC’s 2020 strategic plan. She currently supports implementation of strategic plan initiatives across the organization, leads the development team, and supports internal and external communications. Chiara has also served as in-house counsel since 2014 and engaged in projects around organizational strategy and an effort to align teacher effectiveness efforts across a high-needs CA district. Prior to joining NTC, Chiara served on the Board of Directors for World Savvy, a global competency education nonprofit, and spent 5 years with Legal Aid’s Education Advocacy project providing pro bono support in special education for youth in foster care. Chiara practiced corporate litigation at Davis Polk & Wardwell after earning her J.D. from Columbia Law School. At Davis Polk she worked closely with Sanctuary For Families and Advocates for Children as a pro bono attorney in the areas of family law, special education and immigration. Chiara’s commitment to education and child advocacy began with teaching 1st grade in a dual-language classroom at P.S. 165 in New York City. Chiara also received her B.A. from Dartmouth and an M.A. in Bilingual/Bicultural Education from Teachers College at Columbia University.
