Al Gore: Turtle on a Fence Post | Climate Reality Project

July 26, 2017

Al Gore recently stopped by the offices of Skoll and we had the opportunity to hear his take on the fight against climate change in the wake of the U.S. withdrawal from the Paris Agreement. He talked about the parallels between climate deniers and the merchants of doubt employed by big tobacco using a colorful illustration from his home state of Tennessee: the story of a turtle on a fence post.

Along with his Climate Reality Project, Gore is ever hopeful and working hard to catalyze a global solution to the climate crisis. Fortunately, says Gore, we have the tools to do that. “Solar jobs in the United States are now growing seventeen times faster than job growth generally in the United States,” he said. “And for the next ten years, the Bureau of Labor Statistics says the single biggest occupation in the US is going to be wind tower turbine technician.”
